Located in the heart of Houston Heights, just one block from the vibrant West 19th Street commercial district, Hotel Daphne is a distinctive 49-room boutique hotel designed by BlanchardA+D. The project demonstrates a thoughtful architectural response to the character of the surrounding neighbourhood, carefully balancing the scale of historic residential properties with the larger healthcare and multi-family developments nearby.

Positioned prominently at the intersection of Ashland Avenue and West 20th Street, the five-storey hotel establishes a strong yet respectful presence within its urban context. BlanchardA+D, led by principals Tim Blanchard and Darwin McCredie, drew inspiration from the area’s historic commercial architecture, incorporating stepped parapets, multi-paned windows, white-painted brickwork, dark steel-framed openings, and grey shutters to create a timeless aesthetic that feels both familiar and refined.

A defining feature of the project is its relationship with the site’s mature heritage oak trees. Rather than competing with the landscape, the architecture embraces it through two carefully designed entry courts. The southern courtyard, conceived as a landscaped sanctuary, provides a tranquil setting centred around the existing trees and a charming fountain, while the western court creates a welcoming arrival experience.

Internally, the hotel is organised to maximise connections to these outdoor spaces. The reception area, restaurant, bar, terraces, and guest accommodation all benefit from views of the courtyards, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor experience. The property offers a variety of accommodation options, including spacious guestrooms, terrace rooms, suites, and a premium top-floor suite with a private balcony.

Through its contextual design approach, Hotel Daphne successfully integrates lodging, dining, and social spaces, establishing itself as both a destination for visitors and a valuable addition to the Houston Heights community.
