Tell us a little about your background in design:
I gained my grounding in design from one of the best interior designers in Ireland, the late Peter Johnson. After working in his vibrant showroom for almost four years, I started my own business in 1998. ‘Collette Ward Interiors’, based in Co. Wicklow, Ireland, is my design studio where my team and I create distinctive, colourful and well considered interiors for high-end residential and boutique commercial projects in Ireland, UK and Europe.
The success of my design studio would not be possible without the people who surround me – we are an experienced, small and dedicated team that breathes personality, life and vitality into every project. We have built up wonderful working relationships with talented tradespeople over the last 30 years, and we rely on their skill and knowledge in every conversation with our clients. We work with a great deal of care, integrity, enthusiasm and attention to detail in a beautiful and bucolic setting, surrounded by dogs, cats, horses and sheep. We love what we do and who we work for and with. We work very hard and we also have great fun!
How would you describe your personal design style?:
My personal style is eclectic, warm and quietly joyful. I create interiors that feel lived-in and are human centred with layers of colour, texture and pattern coming together with ease. I enjoy mixing influences – refined with relaxed, contemporary with familiar – always guided by instinct and emotional response. For me, fabric and colour play a central role in this expression, introducing softness, character and a sense of comfort, allowing spaces to feel generous and welcoming. I use colour to lift and energise, often subtly, bringing warmth and optimism without overwhelming the interior. Texture adds depth and tactility, encouraging engagement and a sense of ease.
While my work is carefully considered, it is never rigid. I value interiors that feel personal, expressive and human – spaces that invite connection and quietly enhance everyday life. For me, good design should feel effortless and uplifting, balancing sophistication with warmth and elegance with cheer.
