Private Residence Jeddah

Designed by Robert Angell Design International, Private Residences Jeddah is conceived as a contemporary interpretation of Saudi luxury, where restraint, material integrity and a strong connection to place take precedence over overt grandeur.

Drawing inspiration from the changing colours and light of the Red Sea, the interior uses a soft palette of mineral tones, pale marble and tactile finishes to create a calm, cohesive backdrop. Full-height doors and continuous marble flooring establish a strong sense of verticality and flow, while carefully book-matched stone, grasscloth wallcoverings and bespoke detailing introduce depth and craftsmanship.

Across the principal living spaces, shallow coffered ceilings and petal-shaped pendants create a delicate interplay of light and shadow, while sculptural Baxter furniture brings warmth through a considered mix of leather, fabric and refined forms. Traditional Jeddah architecture is subtly referenced through movable mashrabiya-inspired screens, which filter sunlight, provide privacy and cast changing geometric patterns across the interiors, creating a dialogue between Hejazi heritage and contemporary design.

The two lounges form the social heart of the residence, designed as connected spaces rather than separate rooms, with uninterrupted sightlines extending towards the Red Sea. Here, the restrained architectural palette is softened through tactile grasscloth, sculptural furniture and carefully integrated lighting, allowing proportion, texture and natural light to become the primary decorative elements. The bathrooms continue this language through bespoke marble installations, with each block selected and positioned to create a unified geological composition. Water-effect glass screens introduce privacy without compromising openness, subtly distorting the light as it passes through and reinforcing the home’s fluid relationship with its coastal setting.

Across the master suite and dressing room, the same philosophy of quiet luxury is maintained, with pale reflective surfaces, tactile wall finishes and carefully considered furnishings creating a more intimate expression of the wider scheme. Hardware from Joseph Giles and lighting by Bella Figura provide a level of precision at every touchpoint, while selected Jonathan Adler pieces add restrained moments of personality.

Throughout the residence, the expansive balcony and transitional spaces extend the interior narrative towards the horizon, reinforcing the connection between home and landscape. The design deliberately avoids abrupt changes between rooms, instead using shifts in material, scale and illumination to define different functions and create a continuous sequence through the apartment.

Light is treated almost as a material, changing the character of the marble, glass, screens and textured walls throughout the day, from the cool tones of morning to the warmer hues of sunset. This approach allows the apartment to feel constantly evolving while remaining visually calm and cohesive.

Ultimately, Private Residences Jeddah is defined by an equilibrium between openness and intimacy, tradition and modernity, and architectural restraint and sensory richness, demonstrating how contemporary luxury can be rooted in its surroundings without becoming literal or overly decorative.
