Interior Designer: Elizabeth Metcalfe & Nicole Webster

Elizabeth Metcalfe Interiors was enlisted by their clients who had recently relocated from Southern California with their family. After they had found the perfect residence on Oakville’s lake-front community in the city’s core, they worked together to create their ‘wish-list’ for their new home. The scope of work included a complete renovation of the main floor but to embrace the existing architectural features this home exhibits. The clients wanted a clean slate for the design style and wanted more contemporary furnishings. Working closely with our contractor and trades, EM Design completely redesigned the clients’ new homes interior including the dated kitchen and powder room, foyer, living room, dining room, family room and master suite. While keeping the great bones of this home, the rich architectural features were incorporated into the new design and off-set with new statement pieces.

The grand arched ceiling in the living room was covered in a deep neutral paint to contrast the limestone fireplace. Doubling the storage in the kitchen, we added a beautiful, modern wine storage area for the clients’ extensive wine collection, large island, marble slab backsplash and countertop, a secondary eating area and a comfortable sitting space by the bay window. The family room includes a walk-out to the terrace, and luxury furnishings to comfortably seat eight. Large marble slabs were selected for the flooring throughout in a highly reflective polished finish to give a fresher aesthetic in the home. Custom abstract hand-knotted rugs, new drapery and furnishings, resulted in a cleaner, edited approach to their home.

The careful combination of more traditional architecture with the mix of contemporary furnishings, played a key role in the homes new design. The foyer showcases the intricate railing design that plays off the double sided traditional cast-limestone fireplace in the living room while bold, modern artwork is the focal point on the adjacent wall. The custom-framed cabinetry in the kitchen is suited with the painted plaster mouldings but is contrasted by the dramatically scaled lighting. These subtle details create a sophisticated, modern and welcoming home. Elizabeth Metcalfe Designs have achieved the ultimate design for this home through the planning to the design concepts, luxury finishes and fabrics, custom millwork and detailing that reflects the client love of comfortable luxury.
