After purchasing this stucco-fronted Victorian duplex in Belsize Park as their first marital home, the client was excited to transform the space to reflect their personal style. Having travelled extensively and lived abroad in many countries their style was very international and their brief to Roselind Wilson Design was to create a sophisticated industrial-look Master en-suite showcasing their love for natural stone, texture and a powerful rain shower.

Roselind Wilson Design planned the layout by placing the bath by the window to capture the stunning aspect. Space was stolen from the hallway to allow for a generous shower cubicle with steam/sauna shower with floating timber seat and black metal doors with fluted glass. The vanity was created as the focal point, comprising a chunky horizontal vanity top in the stripy honed Ocean Black travertine and offset by the vertical grey limestone storage niches to either side. To balance the design, the support bars of the mirror curve gently back towards the wall with this organic curve mirrored in the surface-mounted oval basins. The vanity unit below is manufactured from textured Xylo Cleaf that mimics metal mesh to add further texture.

A key aspect of the project was the consideration of the metal finishes within the bathroom. To successfully implement the sophisticated industrial look the metals needed to be different yet complement one another to allow for a timeless feel. A careful mix of antiqued and vintage brass as well as dark bronze was specified and where the exact finish could not be achieved in the piece, such as in the towel rail, it was made bespoke to achieve the exact specification. Lighting was carefully considered to create ambiance in the bathroom. Ceiling spots were used to provide a warm light that accentuates the warmth of the travertine. The pendants that are hung over the vanity provide task lighting to this area and a decorative brass wall light adds a feature to the space.
