Project Name: Carpe Diem
Location: South of France
Company Name: Meon Building Contractors Ltd
Designer: Thorp Design
Architect: Thorp Design

Meon Building Contractors undertook the development of the refurbishment of an existing house and grounds, new pool, new drive along with converting the garage to a guest cottage. The brief was to completely gut and refurbish the existing house within the cap in the South of France. The entrance hall had to be doubled in height with an open staircase to allow a spacious feel. The designers were also asked to create the maximum number of en-suite bedrooms all-encompassing a beautiful sea view. The media room is equipped with security shutters and bars which is situated on the ground floor.

The clients also requested the gradient on the existing driveway to be reduced whilst also converting the existing garage into a cottage suitable for visiting guests. Various rooms were utilised to have other functions, such as a store room turned into a state of the art gym. The designers were also requested to build a 6-metre-high water feature which stands opposite the bullet proof entrance doors. Extra features such as finger print recognition were installed.

The designer’s favourite aspect of the Carpe Diem project was said to be the media room, a tranquil space to unwind. The design works well as it has been built for an English family but yet resembles everything French in its structural and design features. A special feature of this luxury property is that all bedrooms have a sea view and bathroom. Special artisan skills and craftsmanship included, lacquered and fabric walling, lime rendering and lalique panels.
