Project Name: Chalet Le Coquelicot

Location: Courchevel 1850 – French Alps

Date Completed: 2016

Interior Designer: Wilkinson Beven Design

Commissioned for a prestigious ski chalet basement, the brief called for Wilkinson Beven Design to evoke the mood and atmosphere inspired by the classic grandeur of the ‘Deco’ theatre style of the 1930s. The experience starts walking through a hall clad with shagreen wall covings with recessed wine, champagne storage leading down towards the cinema bar and powder room with laser cut marble floors and walls. Luxurious bespoke furnishings set the tone for comfortable evenings in a comfortable environment where chalet guests can enjoy cutting-edge home entertainment. The latest audio-visual technology provides film, music and streamed TV.

The cinema is a luxury retreat, an area of indulgence providing a bespoke interior that encapsulated the glamour of Hollywood, a hidden surprise within a basement mountain ski chalet and providing a Courchevel party feel allowing the owner to entertain guests after a day’s skiing. Wilkinson Beven Design’s team delivered this by combining bespoke material finishes and warm fabric tones, drawing together visual deco shapes to craft individually wrapped fabric panels with hand studding details.

The selection of original movie star portraits from world-renowned photographers creating a sense of classic, effortless style. Artisan fine art framing complementing the imagery and considering the fabric wall backdrop that provides a luxury envelope for guests to enjoy, relax and be absorbed into the movie moment and forgetting the outer world. Wilkinson Beven Design’s favourite aspect of the project was designing sculpted fabric wall panels and curved furniture details to emphasise a refined theatrical hint of nostalgia.

The use of warm bold upholstery fabrics gives importance to the seating crafted with curved shapes, the rich purple tones jump off the luxury carpet hue and background champagne wall tones. The shapes, detail and luxury finishes help to draw together a bespoke deco inspired home cinema environment. The chalet flows with luxury tones, materials and details, the cinema facility creating a point of focus within the property and uplifted a basement area as a luxury retreat.
