Project Name: Chelsea Harbour Apartment

Location: London

Date Completed: October 2015

Interior Designer: Clare Gaskin Interiors

The client’s brief was to create an elegant contemporary pied-a-terre as a hotel replacement when on stopovers in London. The apartment required a complete renovation and change to the dated floor plan with a requirement for expensive and luxurious materials from recognisable brands. Focus was placed on creating a luxury apartment within a contemporary living concept.
Clare Gaskin Interiors decided to go with a metallic palette varying from dark steely greys to warmer brass and gold tones, using materials that evoke elegance such as velvet and silk wall coverings. These materials work well with the river view on both gloomy and sunnier days. To ensure the apartment did not feel too dark or cold, Clare Gaskin selected fabrics and flooring with warmer tones, clever lighting schemes and varied use of mirrors (highlighting art works, the river view and overall decorative scheme).

The client requested a large open plan entertainment area with adjoining kitchen, it was important the kitchen remained an independent space within the open plan lounge and dining areas. The cabinetry defines the kitchen as a separate space, Clare Gaskin Interiors installed walnut bookmatched eye level and tall units to add pattern and depth as well as spray painted units for the low-level joinery. Bronze mirror splashbacks were used to create illusion of space, reflecting the river views.

The client had a preference for radiators versus underfloor heating. The designers decided to make the radiators a feature that work with the reflective décor. A custom, hand knotted Stark rug in the living area optimises the scheme with a coin based design. The bedrooms are elegant, contemporary and hotel styled, with TV/dressing tables hidden behind pocket doors. Both bedrooms required en suite bathrooms, one with a steam room and the other with a bath and shower. The design of this apartment works so well because Clare Gaskin Interiors completely changed the floorplan. There needed to be a certain grandeur to the apartment and through widening the hallways and increasing the height of internal doors the apartment has elegance combined with pared back luxury.
