Meon Building Contractors Ltd were commissioned to renovate Grimston Road, a disused and rundown property into a usable family home whilst maximising the square footage. The clients requested that a basement was to be built to include a guest bedroom with accompanying en-suite, laundry room and a media/games area.

Major structural changes included the removal of the existing staircase and replaced with an open staircase that was naturally lit from a roof skylight all the way to the basement. The master bedroom was relocated to the rear of the property and an additional en-suite was added to create a master suite. The loft space was converted into additional bedrooms along with the main family bathroom. The designers created an outside raised seating area in the rear garden which included an area of walk on glass which allowed natural light to the basement. The kitchen was a bespoke fluted design fully integrated with appliances.

The favourite aspect of this project was said to be the 3.2 metre ceiling height of the basement. This project was not built with an end user in mind and so the simple, yet elegant design appeals to a wide audience. Meon Building Contractors took the property from 1200sqft to a 3000sqft without changing the front facade at all. Special artisan skills included French polishing and fabric walling.
