Name: Notting Hill Residence

Location: London

Interior Designer: BM Design London

The beginning of 2014 saw BM Design commence works on a large design and build development, which featured a challenging double basement design and excavation for a prestigious family. BM Design worked from inception with the architects including planning and listed building consent through to completion to renovate this impressive 5,000 sq ft private residence.

In particular, the client requested a sensitive approach but with a contemporary feel to the restoration and reinstatement of the architectural detailing throughout. The Victorian townhouse once owned by the cricketer Mike Atherton and later by the flamboyant comedian Alan Carr was not lacking in colour or “nutty sentiments.” The family’s brief stated that whilst it was important to respect the period detailing, they wanted a calming, elegant and contemporary environment that was also workable as a family home – a far cry from Carr’s colour scheme.

Set out over seven floors the property includes a lower level basement gym and media room, two reception rooms, dining room and study on the principal floors including a sun room. The upper floors accommodate a roof terrace, playroom and three further children’s bedrooms. The spacious master suite is laid out over an entire floor of the main house.
