Project Name: Private Estate, Wentworth

Location: Virginia Water, Surrey, United Kingdom

Date Completed: November 2017

Interior Designer: Hill House Interiors

Hill House Interiors were recommended to devise the interior schemes for the clients when the house was originally built in 2006, since which time they have progressed onto their fabulously contemporary holiday home and limited-edition Oyster yacht. It was, therefore, a sheer delight for them to be contacted again to be involved in this different, and rather exciting challenge. The project, adding a cool 3000 sq. ft. extension to their 9000 sq. ft. home on the Wentworth Estate was not inconsiderable. The clients, a couple with two teenage children, were looking for an extensive remodel on their family home, with a key focus on the entertainment spaces.

Having worked with the clients so closely over the past 12 years, Hill House Interiors were highly trusted to deliver the right scheme, and as the directors prefer, were brought in at the very beginning of the process, to help advise on the layout and design of the entire space. The brief stipulated an open plan space with a number of dedicated areas to entertain friends and family. Hill House Interiors drew inspiration for this remarkable space from the art deco era – that fascinating period in history when bold geometry, artistic mirrors and exquisitely rich materials started to be incorporated into private homes.

Emphasising the space and allowing for maximum natural light, the open plan living area flows seamlessly from the vast entrance hall, where attention is drawn to the hand sculpted bonsai wall art. Finished in a shimmering pearlescent coat, the feature is subtly lit with soft recessed lighting, enhancing the incredibly intricate detail of this favoured far eastern tree specimen.  Two large bay windows overlook the garden, with ample space for the clients’ grand piano and highly operational bar, ideally located for the adjoining enticingly snug cinema room.

A bar was a necessity, as the clients love to entertain, and a more extensive seating area was required. Attention to detail is maximised by the insertion of elaborate bronze detailing throughout bespoke cabinetry, tables, and the exemplary deep lustre black lacquer sliding doors which lead off the main living space. Hill House Interiors have created an incredibly inspired entertainment area, successfully separating the vast, open plan space into four very unique but highly functional areas, whilst maintaining the harmonious flow from the grand entrance hall. Equally suited to hosting large parties as well as quiet family nights in, the multipurpose living space has become the key focal point of the house.
