Project Name: Perles

Date Completed: April 2019

Designer: Pierre Yves-Rochon for Lalique

Inspired by original Rene Lalique lighting designs of the 1930s and the graphic and symbolic power of the candle, the Perles Chandelier is carved with stripes and cabochons in satin finish crystal which is emblematic of LALIQUE. Crowns of light are adorned with slender and elegant crystal candles which have been arranged in rhythmic rigor by designer, Pierre Yves-Rochon.  Metal sublimates the purity and brilliance of the crystal.

The brief for this product was to design a contemporary chandelier with a nod to the classical and Lalique’s heritage marrying the artistic brilliance of founder, Rene Lalique and his designs from the 1930s in lighting which are still some of the best sellers for the French heritage brand today. Pierre Yves Rochon, the great French interior designer and decorator, most celebrated for the Palace interiors he has created across the world, has added to his Signature collection for Lalique – the latest of which – the Perles Chandelier was unveiled at the Milan furniture fair Euroluce 2019.

Pierre Yves-Rochon has had a love affair with Lalique which began when he was 20. As soon as he could, he treated himself to glasses from the 1930s – in his mind, Lalique is the most consummate representative from that period. Pierre Yves Rochon wanted to create a contemporary take on a classic chandelier using crystal – a noble material that lends itself to many art forms – particularly lighting to which it has a ‘wonderful response.’ Immersing himself in the world of Lalique, he took his inspiration from Lalique’s knowledge of working with metal and crystal. The Perles chandelier with its classical proportions is very modern and will evoke timelessness as with all of LALIQUE’s designs, working in either a classic or contemporary setting.

Clear crystal and nickel finish – the Perles Chandelier by Pierre-Yves Rochon comes to life when lit in a shining canopy from beneath. The latest LED technology is married with classic design with neoclassical accents with a Grand Siecle flair bringing a touch of French elegance to any interior scheme.
