Project name: SILVERLAKES GOLF ESTATE

Location: PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA

Date completed: MARCH 2019

Interior Designer: DONALD NXUMALO

Donald Nxumalo Interior Design was given a brief to create a space that would be modern but comfortable, and to allude to African Luxury, Italian Design and local art. Silverlakes Golf Estate works so well due to all these aspects having been incorporated in the project in a harmonious way. The home that was produced is modern and warm, with ethnic touches in the textures, colours and artwork.

This young family home needed to be practical, but also clutter-free and clean, emulating the clean lines in the seamless architecture of the structure. Donald Nxumalo was given the task of softening the cold and masculine look of the grey concrete, without taking away from the cleanliness that was being exhibited.

The design ensured that all elements of the brief were considered, by creating a clean and smooth-flowing interior. The space includes sliding doors which create a flow towards the outside areas, and this in turn leads to the lake that overlooks the house. The most technical aspect of the interior design for Donald Nxumalo was the cladding of the entrance hall with wood and stained mirror. Not only this was a key feature of the project, but the materials also needed to camouflage the doors into the home cinema so that they cannot be seen when closed.

Being trusted to execute the brief, Donald Nxumalo enjoyed the freedom he was given to express his creativity. Though the main aesthetic the client wanted was softness and luxury, the brief was extended to include as much colour as possible without overshadowing the focus.
