This almost 50,000 square foot astonishing property in the heart of Mayfair, London is an opulent home which has been deemed Britain’s Most Expensive Home and was commissioned for a Channel 4 documentary to showcase the design and build of this luxurious space. The brief given to Arista Design was to create a “home like no other” with design aspects in the home that were fun, adventurous and quirky. The client also needed the space to be able to accommodate charity balls for over 100 guests.

The entrance to the property has been transformed from a dark and gloomy hallway to a vivid and welcoming space with light colours including a graceful marble floor. The striking brightness of this entrance is enhanced by the five chandeliers which stretch over four floors. With eight different zones, each area has a distinctly different feel as if to enter a completely different environment between each space.

The former conservatory on the third floor of the property has been renovated into a dining room with a high concept Thai-style design. The extravagance continues into the dining room with handmade wooden panels covering the walls creating an authentic oriental atmosphere. An indoor river has been incorporated into the flooring in this room with live tropical Japanese cichlids fish. Arista Design have explained that the river running through this room is their favourite aspect of the property due to the exotic aquatic animals featured. The centrepiece of the room is a 15-foot preserved tree trunk adorned with silk cherry blossom stretching the length of the room. The pink colours in the cherry blossom along with the tropical shades in the dining chairs create a Thai glamour in this eccentric Mayfair home.

The glamour and extravagance continue into the master bedroom suite which has been finished with an enormous crystal light, gold leaf trim and emperor size bed. The designers have added his and hers personalised dressing rooms which make the home special for the client as well as aesthetically pleasing. The ensuite has been decorated with a spectacular feature wall and mother of pearl inlay. Many specialists and artisans were needed for such unique pieces throughout the property, including the marquetry using specialist materials like mother of pearl with shagreen inlay and specialist upholsters for handwoven embroidery were essential for a project to this scale. This magnificent gem in the heart of Mayfair is breathtaking, elegant and has been completed exceptionally by Arista Design.
