SHH has completed one of its most ambitious residential projects to date, a high-spec, luxury, new-build villa in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The 30,000 sq. ft villa has been designed in a Mediterranean style with Romanesque architectural influences throughout. SHH provided a full architecture and interior design service on the project from concept through to completion and dressing.

The client brief outlined a desire to build a house that was able to accommodate visits by statesmen and women, royalty and VVIPs from all over the world but also be their family home. The house should be imposing without being overtly pretentious and should incorporate details and references of European designs but in a modern and fresh manner.

The family is young, dynamic and cosmopolitan. They are highly educated and travel widely and have a keen eye for the developing middle eastern art scene. They love colour and the use of interesting, rare materials used in unique ways. There was always a preference to use interesting artisans sourced from across the globe to supply bespoke items.

The client wanted SHH to provide a turnkey design solution from architecture through to interiors and FF&E. They were very keen to ensure that the project was designed and built in a manner that would significantly raise the standards currently available in Dubai. The detailing of the architecture alone, bringing in the use of strict controls in heat bridging allows this property to be far more efficient than similar scale projects.

SHH built a strong and lasting relationship with the clients who were both actively involved in all aspects of the design process. The outcome is a fabulous, enduring property that the client’s love. Dubai’s private residential sector is still developing. There are some interesting new buildings in a modern vernacular. However, this property breaks new ground in terms of size and use of the entire plot including a basement level which is rare in this city.
