Interior Designer: Ancerl Studio

Inspired by farmhouse living, Ancerl Studio takes a contemporary approach with the design of this property by utilising a traditional layout, while playing with varying heights and volumes of space. Botfield Residence marries elements of the classic farmhouse with modern touches to create a show-stopping yet welcoming family home.

The design scheme ties each space together throughout the house, creating continuity and natural flow through each space. The raw concrete tiled floor and warm white walls of the foyer frame the vista through the space and to the rear garden. The views draw visitors in to explore the soaring ceilings at the heart of the home. Centrally located, the kitchen and dining room feature cathedral ceilings with exposed wood beams, warm wood accents and natural materials. Oversized pendant lights complement the grand space, and add a warm glow for evenings spent around the large dining table. A private study and a sunny casual breakfast nook extend from the main area that leads to the family room. Stepping down into here, expansive wall-to-wall windows and a custom, statement fireplace reminiscent of an original woodstove become a stunning backdrop to Ancerl Studio’s layered and collected soft furnishings that bring the space to life.

Black metal stair pickets and feature wall panelling lead up to the second floor, where one is met with a catwalk that overlooks the dining and kitchen space below and connects the secondary bedrooms and bathrooms to the private treehouse-like primary suite. Featuring a cathedral ceiling with exposed beams, a peaked wall-to-wall window, and layers of neutral soft textures and furnishings, the intimate escape is a cosy nest overlooking the lush green gardens outside. The white marbled spa-like bathroom includes a windowed alcove for the freestanding tub, and another peaceful perch that offers garden views.

The finish palette is warm and inviting, with Ancerl Studio using natural materials to connect the indoors and out. The home is quite open concept, but each space still functions as individual rooms for a successful and welcoming floor plan. Thoughtful planning between the architecture and design has resulted in an inviting home with soaring ceilings and a generous amount of natural light, with the designers considering the unique layout, double height ceilings and beams in the centre of the home, and the expansive loft style glass windows as the key elements of the concept. It is a classic peaked farmhouse style, and traditional silhouette that has been reimagined in a contemporary way.
