Project Name: Cinema Brunnock

Location: Gauteng, South Africa

This home cinema has been designed and implemented by Cinema Architects for a young family on a budget. Cinema Brunnock offers the maximum performance with consideration for the future by factoring in any upgrades that may be needed. Taking the needs and requests of the clients into account, this cinema has been tailored to the family and how they will use the space.

One of the client’s major requests was to have a bed at the front of the cinema. It is a young family with two children, and they enjoy spending weekends in the cinema as well as having sleepovers with friends in the cinema. The client does not entertain much and requested that the cinema sound be more concentrated towards the front row seating. Therefore, Cinema Architects had to calculate the audio “sweet spot” and ensure that the front row seating and bed enjoyed the best sound. Another performance objective for this room was that the client is a big sports fan, and so there was a requirement to provide a large screen with high-quality pictures. In order to achieve this, the designers supplied the DreamVision Native 4K Projector with a large 3.4m acoustic transparent Projector screen.

The vision was to provide an upgradable processor that would elevate the system to the next level in the future. The designers looked to balance all aspects, and stop the client needing to replace everything in future upgrades. The loudspeakers were compensated to accommodate a better future processor. Cinema Architects compensated on the loudspeakers, choosing GENELEC Active Loudspeakers for the space, and because they are Active, they were able to scale down on the processor or AV receiver. An affordable NAD Receiver still produces excellent quality sound but also delivers the functionality that was desired from the clients. The designers considered that the NAD, with its Dirac Live™ and the upgraded version that is available to add to this processor, would be a worthy investment not only on functionality but also cost-saving. Another benefit is that the NAD consists of MDC boards, which makes the unit almost future-proof.
