Date Completed: September 2020

Interior Designer: Yvette Taylor

Yvette Taylor Interiors were enlisted for the restoration of a beautiful 230 years old, Grade II listed stone cottage located in picturesque village Barnsley in the Cotswolds. The brief was to design a cosy and comfortable weekend retreat for the family away from the pressures of life in Central London, restoring its original beauty while introducing a range of chic, eye-catching, bright, and colourful designs in a country style to reflect the building’s long history.

The magical character of the owners’ private suite is created by exceptional de Gournay wallpaper: hand-painted Earlham on custom blue silk. It took five months to produce this striking piece of art.

The beams were gun-sanded and restored to expose the natural beauty of the wood. The room is accented by Iranian wool carpet in a rich peach colour theme, while the headboard is upholstered in Lizzo dark aqua blue velvet matching the wallpaper and including decorative brass studs. Two antique armchairs from family private collection were restored and upholstered in fabric from Osborne & Little.

Seraphina wallpaper, a dreamy design of wisteria blossoms by Colefax & Fowler, was used in the bathroom, together with period teal tiles, geometric floor covering, and a luxurious freestanding copper bath. The property was completely re-wired to the latest standards with brass switches and surrounds, sound system and TVs. A new remote-controlled heating system was installed using copper piping with Carron period radiators throughout the house. Bespoke Joinery was incorporated through the oak interior doors, bookshelves, and storage areas.

The selection of every material was carefully considered by Yvette Taylor Interiors. It was crucial to restoring the house to its original beauty, respecting the architectural style of a period stone house. The house is part of a beautiful Cotswold village which consists of Grade II listed stone houses and a boutique hotel Barnsley house. The traditional country-style theme was rigorously applied to all areas of the house.

Yvette Taylor Interiors believe that the design was so successful due to the entire selection of fabrics, wallpapers, furniture, lighting, rugs, flooring, and bathrooms fittings which complemented the period style of the house. The use of the Caron radiators also helped to accentuate the traditional look.
