Project Name: Eclectic Loft Space

Location: Lancaster Gate, UK

Date Completed: December 2019

Interior Designer: Meme Laurence / Mimos Interiors

Constriction: Jez Lye – Majan Projects

The client had a dream to bring to life a loft apartment in Lancaster Gate, comprising of three bedrooms, two bathrooms, an open plan living, dining and kitchen area with mezzanine den/study and a roof terrace. The brief for Mimos Interiors was to create a fun, electric space for a client and his young children, to enjoy and entertain with family and friends. It was important for it to be quirky, fun with an understated timeless style.

Mimos Interiors achieved the brief by working with a vibrant palette of colours, textures, lighting and artwork. The designer also replaced an unattractive spiral staircase with a bespoke steel and oak staircase, which looked as if it had always been there and incorporated skylights and rooftop windows bringing the outside in, throwing a huge amount of light into the space.

Further strong colours were introduced using vintage chandeliers, wall lights, copper light fittings, upholstered furniture from Maries Corner in Belgium, B&B Italia, and Ochre hand-crafted well-made pieces that were fun and stylish.

As the client is an entrepreneur, working from home, it was important that he had different zones to work in, either at his bespoke desk on the open mezzanine space with the lush green carpet specially dyed for this space, or sitting in the chair hammock or on the bespoke limed oak bar.

It was important that the large open plan living area had distinct zones for dining, having a drink, and a sitting room area, which were linked together using similar materials and finishes, so that the space flowed. The kitchen was refurbished, using antique green mirror splash back, multi coloured glass handles for the kitchen cupboards, bespoke ironmongery for cooking equipment and a skylight allowing light to pour into the Kitchen, from the mezzanine space above.

For Mimos Interiors, it was wonderful to have the opportunity of working in such a fabulous space that had so much potential, a loft of exposed brickwork and steel frames, a wonderful backdrop brought to life with colours and textures. It was important that the space created appeared effortless, naturally created, when in fact a lot of time and thought was put into creating this project, working closely with the client.
