Project Name: Farmhouse Redefined

Nick Vanderhovel of Kitchen NV got a call one day from a perspective client looking to get started on a kitchen remodel, in which entertainment was a crucial element. Farmhouse Redefined was the result.

The existing kitchen was average sized and completely cut off from the dining room and partially cut off from the living room. Therefore, the walls were taken down and as a result, the kitchen is now open and central to the wider environment of the house. Across from the kitchen, it is now open to the fireplace and accenting walls that have a similar aesthetic touch. This was of course a crucial and highly effective aspect of enhancing the spaces entertainment credentials.

The flooring throughout the home compliments with the material change on the ceiling as well. Indeed, the ceiling served to be a favourite aspect of the project for Nick, as he was able to create separate focal points both centred and split upon the beams, as well as creating a level of balance despite other factors in the ceiling.

For Nick, the design works so well in that it is unlike anything he has ever done before, and within this, is able to deviate from the current norm of kitchen design. Many of the kitchens he sees now are transitional, contemporary, or modern. Nick was able to use warmer colour tones in a contemporary approach to a farmhouse kitchen. It consequently served as a satisfying deviation from the slightly generic white and grey transitional kitchens that currently flood the market.
