Project Name: St. James’s

Location: London, United Kingdom

Interior Designer: Emma Green Design

Emma Green Design was required to refurbish several rooms in this gorgeous, well-proportioned Victorian home. For the double reception room, the clients wanted part of the room to be adult only – a glamorous space yet one that was both comfortable and reflected the period nature of their property.

Emma Green Design created a neutral backdrop in a calming warm grey and incorporated a mixture of both traditional and contemporary pieces. For example, there is a distinct juxtaposition between the traditional shape of the armchairs / sofa and the angular floor lamps, but they work together seamlessly. The glamorous element that the clients were seeking was introduced through the opulent blue velvet curtains, the tiered crystal chandelier, and the sculptural concrete coffee table. The client’s favourite colour is blue, so along with the curtains, Emma Green Design designed and made a deep blue bespoke built-in bar into the available alcove. What more do you need for a stylish evening aperitif?

For the other half of the room, the colour scheme was continued but with slightly more contemporary fabrics, as this area was to be used as a family media room. Emma Green Design created a contemporary custom-made corner sofa in a beautiful hardwearing linen, and a bespoke media unit to house the client’s TV, books and vase collection. Glamorous elements such as the opulent curtains and luxurious chandelier were also repeated in this area.

The result is a glamorous yet highly practical living space in London. The layout and colour schemes flow seamlessly from the clearly defined areas of the reception room which unites the entire space. The design allows the period architecture of the townhouse to breathe whilst the transitional mix of some traditional and some contemporary pieces really highlights the best of both worlds.
