The designer was asked to renovate a newly built penthouse, as it was too “standard” for the client who loves interior and art. Utide not only superficially changed the looks, but totally changed the plan. Initially there was a staircase in the living room connecting the main bedroom & bathroom upstairs, and living room / dining room / kitchen was all in one big open space like the typical Japanese high-end apartments. But as the children were still small and the client often invited guests, the designer totally separated the private and the public zone. First Utide changed the position of the stairs to the entrance hall, so that the 2nd floor private zone can be accessed without going through the living room.

Second, the family room was created, and the kitchen was positioned facing the family room, separated from the dining room. This way, children can enjoy their time in the family room, and the chef can prepare dishes without disturbing the guests in the dining / living room. The theme for the lower floor was gold / beige / black; and silver/grey / blue for the 2nd floor.

So for the lower floor, the walls and floors are beige and gold. As an accent, a gold bespoke pendant, black bespoke glass doors, and black handle for the stairs in the foyer were added. Mixed shells and gold trims were added to bespoke doors and cabinets in the living and dining room. For the dining room they added “green”: the peacock tie-back, the green glass pendant and the green velvet for the dining chair. And for the 2nd floor, the walls and floor are light warm grey and the fixtures and hardware’s are all silver. All navy private study served as a wonderful accent for the 2nd floor. Also, the Moroccan main bedroom is designed to be a great accent from the living room. As the bedroom faces the void of the living room, the designer created a wooden window imaging the Ryad in Morocco.

The penthouse has 2 views. One overlooking the bay of Yokohama and the other overlooking the woods of the shrine. The bathroom vanity was repositioned to integrate the view of the bay and created the window in the centre of the vanity.
