For this project, Lighting By Plum needed a lighting scheme that would highlight the design and structure of the existing space by accentuating the ceiling heights and the flexibility of each room in the barn.

In order to achieve this result, the designers used some flexible tracks and suspended pendants throughout the space. All luminaires were carefully selected to work with the architecture but also to respond to the client’s needs and style – a modern and contemporary feel. Another key emphasis was to create a lighting scheme that would be simple, with clean lines and overall classic.

Lighting By Plum created a cohesive design by taking in consideration the flow of movement within the space as well as the definition of each living area by including variable layers of light for specific setting. They managed to create a subtle balance between intimate and public rooms. The use of flexible and cost effective track lighting allow to enhance and define the architecture of the barn; each room’s function is highlighted. Overall the designers succeeded in creating a lighting scheme with depth and atmosphere.

The exterior lighting design was also kept minimal due to the rural location and surrounding wildlife. While the interior lighting had to respond to the vast amount of glazing and daylight, the selection of sustainable lights was another important part of their design process. A smart control system was specified to minimise the energy use and to make sure this one will be use only when required.

This project works so well because It enhanced the use and flexibility of each space which was a key driver for their client. A strong study of the building was required in order to bring what the barn was missing: a comprehensive and eco friendly lighting scheme for an every day use.
