The brief for Mia Karlsson Interior Design Ltd was to design an apartment that felt like a home away from when the family visited London, with the addition of a studio space for a design student. The designers had to work together with the client, who was living abroad at the time, to transform this period property into a modern living apartment whilst allowing the original features to shine through.

Mia Karlsson Interior Design worked with specialists to restore the original stairs and wood flooring, and designed custom joinery to enhance the wider space, providing much needed storage, and concealing the existing air conditioning units. This included wardrobes, kitchen units and the most extraordinary a red dresser with integrated lighting designed and built to appear free standing in the dining area. The designers also installed some incredibly high-end wallpapers including a handmade silk Philip Jeffries paper with gold gilding. A highly bespoke AV solution was also installed which included a concealed projector and screen, Mia Karlsson have given the client the full cinema experience at the push of a button.

With limited face to face contact with this client, the designers were trusted entirely with every aspect of the design, build and installation with one final reveal at the end of the project – a full turn key solution which worked brilliantly. The bedrooms felt homely despite not being used very often and all chosen elements were of the best quality, designed to stand the test of time with minimal maintenance required – perfect for a travelling family with limited time.
