Spaciously cosy. A demanding brief for Melanie Tomlinson Design, for this traditionally narrow, character mews terrace. Clever design and planning achieved the desired result of a highlands lodge feel for this client, a nod to his heritage background.

The galley kitchen featured black appliances that drove a dark cabinetry colour scheme offset with a run of light grey joinery on the opposite side providing ample storage. A combined dining space provided a practical living space to entertain.

Double doors with feature glass reaching to the high ceilings invites your eyeline up and through to the cosy living room. Featuring worn tan leather loungers sat atop the rich, chocolatey dark hardwood floor laid in herringbone draws the eye back through the galley kitchen. With dark hues and black accents this living space is warm and inviting.

The open plan kitchen and dining space is a favourite aspect of the design. The entrance of the property opens directly into this area, so Melanie Tomlinson Design were ever conscious of it needing to be practical yet welcoming, stylish yet functional. The kitchen and furniture modelling represents the strength and robustness of the overall design feel they sought to depict whilst achieving a cosy lodge feel.

Using a design style that met with the client’s needs yet exceeded expectations as far as the result achieved, is driven by the clear vision of the lead designer. Remaining focussed on the design development stage with time spent understanding the client hopes of how the home was to be lived in afforded the studio to push boundaries, bringing strong design elements to the forefront to achieve a bold statement that won’t date.

This project successfully combines a clean look into dark moody interiors. Whilst not overtly focusing on symmetry, there is a fluidity captured throughout the spaces. The finished result truly embodies the clients brief and tastes that affords him a peaceful haven to call home.
