Tasked with adhering to the stringent guidelines set forth by the St. Pete Historic Preservation Committee, Michelle Miller Design embarked on a total renovation project that revitalized every facet of the house.

The homeowners’ vision was clear: to pay homage to the home’s historical significance while infusing it with their passion for international travel, particularly drawing inspiration from Moroccan and Oriental influences. Every detail was meticulously scrutinized to ensure an authentic restoration to the original 1925 specifications. This commitment extended beyond the visible elements, delving into the very infrastructure, with copper water lines and cast-iron waste pipes faithfully replicated.

This home, constructed nearly a century ago with timber from now-extinct woodlands, stands as a testament to the enduring craftsmanship of its era. Michelle Miller Design embarked on a multifaceted journey of restoration, including the revival of original Chippendale furniture discovered in storage, the commissioning of a bespoke staircase mural by talented artists, and the creation of custom millwork meticulously mirroring the home’s original crown, floor, and trim moldings.

Among the standout features of this remarkable transformation is the clever enclosure of the exterior side porch adjacent to the breakfast nook. This ingenious design decision not only expanded the available square footage but also retained the home’s historic essence. The result is a charming space perfect for leisurely mornings, where one can savor a cup of coffee and breakfast while basking in the ambiance of a bygone era.
