Oberson Architects faced a unique challenge: crafting a vibrant home with a rooftop oasis for a swim-loving couple who enjoy hosting private gatherings. Known for pushing boundaries, the interdisciplinary firm designed a modern duplex that revitalises a high-density neighbourhood as part of an urban renewal project.

The clients, an architect and a businessman, prioritised environmental consciousness in their design. Passive design principles like natural ventilation, shading, and orientation were significant considerations for Oberson Architects in creating this unique residence. Perched atop the duplex, the apartment boasts stunning rooftop views.

“The open floor plan seamlessly connects with the loft-like space,” says Architect Dana Oberson, founder of Oberson Architects. This layout includes a home office that flows effortlessly into the living room, dining room, and kitchen. Lush green balconies around the perimeter blur the lines between inside and out.

The kitchen features a stormy grey and beige stone countertop, contrasting beautifully with exposed concrete walls and warm light oak flooring. Unique details emerge beneath the elegant staircase, where kitchen cabinetry integrates seamlessly, and a horizontal black metal screen railing leads to the master suite on the upper level.

The master suite, a true loft unto itself, opens onto a private rooftop paradise with a swimming pool and cabana. A library wall divides the sleeping area from the social zones, offering privacy and tranquility. The design blends sophisticated and welcoming elements, with a vintage-style vanity and an eclectic walk-in closet, creating a space that feels timeless and part of the family for generations.
