Inside Studio has reimagined a dated family home into a multi-functional sanctuary, blending Victorian heritage with modern design to meet the needs of a growing family. The brief was to create a space that was both impressive for entertaining and cosy for daily family life, all while prioritising practicality, sustainability, and storytelling.

The family sought a timeless, cohesive design that incorporated durable materials, maximised storage, and maintained a sense of flow throughout the home. Inside Studio addressed these needs while retaining several existing elements, reducing costs and the carbon footprint by repurposing furniture and avoiding unnecessary waste. Subtle panelling was added to honour the home’s Victorian roots, while the omission of traditional coving maintained a modern aesthetic.

A lack of natural light in certain areas posed a challenge, especially in the open-plan layout. Inside Studio replaced existing window treatments with floor-to-ceiling curtains to enhance daylight and inserted antique oversized mirrors into wall panelling to reflect light and brighten darker sections. Thoughtful furniture placement, such as an occasional chair in a sunlit corner, created inviting moments of comfort and relaxation.

The family’s oversized sofa, steeped in sentimental value, was reupholstered in boucle fabric and layered with cushions to combine elegance with comfort. Similarly, practical design elements—like a casual dining table for homework and a child-friendly round coffee table—made the space fully functional for everyday use.

In the principal bedroom, Inside Studio transformed the layout to incorporate a TV, vanity table, wardrobes, and ample storage. The bed was repositioned to create distinct zones, maximising functionality while retaining a sense of luxury.

Inside Studio also turned an underused formal lounge into a vibrant children’s playroom, reflecting the family’s dynamic lifestyle. By balancing beauty, sustainability, and personal narrative, Inside Studio delivered a home designed for both living and storytelling.
