Claire West Interior Design has transformed a stark developer spec lounge in Alderley Edge into a richly layered, inviting retreat that reflects both luxury and soul. Set within a newly refurbished second home, the space was envisioned as a calm, welcoming environment for a couple who use the property as a base for visiting family and enjoying restful weekends away from their primary residence.

The original space was a blank canvas, but Claire West Interior Design brought depth, texture and warmth through a carefully curated palette of rich browns, burnt umber, soft clays and subtle black accents. Central to the design is a dramatic 5.5 metre high bespoke joinery wall that anchors the double height room both visually and architecturally. It incorporates concealed storage, display niches and integrated lighting, striking a balance between functionality and elegance.

Natural materials and thoughtful craftsmanship define the interior. A hand applied scalloped clay wall finish by Clayworks introduces tactile richness, while original artworks commissioned through Artistic Licence Studio add further depth and cohesion. These pieces, along with flowing full height sheers made by a trusted curtain maker, contribute to a sense of tranquillity and timeless style.

Claire West Interior Design paid careful attention to every detail, collaborating with a skilled joinery team and lighting consultant to ensure that each element, from grain direction to lighting temperature, aligned with the project’s refined aesthetic. The layered lighting scheme allows the room to transition from bright and open during the day to cocooning and intimate at night.

Instead of opting for a glossy aesthetic common to the area, Claire West Interior Design chose to embrace the natural beauty of the Alderley Edge landscape through grounded, organic forms and authentic materials. The result is a lounge that feels elevated yet lived in, soulful yet sophisticated, a true reflection of thoughtful, context aware design.
