Nunu Interior Design, Inc. crafted a timeless “forever home” in Summer Hill, Toronto, guided by the principles of Japandi design. Known for its thoughtful simplicity, this aesthetic blends Japanese and Scandinavian influences—focusing on authenticity, natural materials, and functionality.

The serene atmosphere begins with a minimalist architectural language expressed through clean lines, refined proportions, and a curated palette of just 7-8 materials. Natural stone, genuine wood, and hand-applied plaster add texture and depth, creating a quiet sense of luxury. Large windows with dainty mullions and sheer textured drapery invite natural light, enriching the home with soft shadow play.

At the heart of the home is a sculptural, handcrafted wooden staircase connecting all four levels—serving as both functional feature and artistic centrepiece. The main floor features cohesive wood veneer panelling, custom millwork, and hidden doors—all using a single wood finish to create visual continuity and understated elegance.

The team meticulously designed millwork, furniture, and even throw pillows and seat cushions, ensuring intentional scale and proportion. The result is a refined space that feels considered yet effortless.

Durable materials such as quartzite and porcelain tile were selected for longevity and ease, seamlessly blending beauty and practicality. Despite its modern Japandi-inspired interior, the home’s exterior respects the historic charm of its Summer Hill neighbourhood, with subtle eclectic touches like a custom ceiling medallion and vintage decor nodding to its heritage. This home offers a peaceful, authentic retreat within the city—thoughtfully designed in every detail by Nunu Interior Design, Inc.
