Filiz Capur Interiors has unveiled the transformation of a Grade II listed Victorian townhouse in St. John’s Wood, seamlessly blending historic charm with contemporary design to create a vibrant, family-oriented sanctuary. Built in the mid-1800s, the home once served as part of a nursing home. Today, it stands as a stunning example of how timeless elegance and modern functionality can harmonise to meet the needs of a dynamic family of five and their dog.

The design brief focused on maintaining the property’s historical character while infusing it with a relaxed, airy aesthetic inspired by poolside living. Filiz Capur Interiors meticulously reconfigured the four-story layout to improve flow and functionality, crafting a home that exudes both sophistication and accessibility.

The lower ground floor now serves as the heart of the home, featuring an open kitchen and dining area with seamless access to the garden through a striking opening. This space was designed to encourage family connection and evoke the breezy openness of a pool house. Meanwhile, the ground floor offers a serene retreat for the parents, with a drawing room, study, and gym blending elegance and practicality.

The upper floors house four luxurious bedrooms, each paired with its own bathroom, while two additional bathrooms on the lower levels add convenience. Soaring ceilings over three meters high amplify the home’s grandeur and allow natural light to flood the interiors. Neutral tones and soft textures throughout provide a serene backdrop, while the client’s modern art collection injects bursts of vibrant colour.

Preserving the Victorian heritage required months of careful planning with heritage authorities. The end result is a home that balances the timeless elegance of its historic features with the relaxed luxury of contemporary family living, creating a sanctuary as inviting as it is refined.
