Extreme Design has brought a bold and highly personal vision to life in a kitchen project nestled within the historic walled gardens of Lynford Hall in Norfolk. Set within the grounds once used to grow fresh produce for the manor, the kitchen sits at the heart of a new home conceived by the owners of Clayland Architects. With deep respect for the site’s heritage, the design merges old and new, resulting in a kitchen that feels both rooted in history and strikingly contemporary.

The brief from the client emphasised the importance of entertaining and maintaining a connection with the landscape. In response, Extreme Design crafted a distinctive U-shaped kitchen island that serves as both a social hub and a practical centrepiece. Anchoring the open-plan layout, the island offers breakfast seating beneath a glass roof light, allowing natural light to flood the space and connect the new structure to the original historic wall.

Drawing inspiration from the surrounding garden and architectural elements, the kitchen features materials and finishes that reflect the organic beauty of its setting. Tall cabinetry showcases deep, undulated timber textures reminiscent of forested terrain, while aged copper accents, mirroring the home’s exterior cladding, appear throughout the surfaces and island feature panel.

A hidden prep kitchen ensures the main space remains elegant and welcoming for daily use and social gatherings. Every element is intentional, from the floating corner of the island to the sightlines that frame views of the landscaped gardens.

Working in collaboration with Clayland Architects, Extreme Design has created a kitchen that is both functional and emotionally resonant, seamlessly integrating into a home that honours its unique history while embracing a bold, modern identity.
