Taylor Howes Designs has completed the transformation of a Chelsea townhouse into a richly expressive family home that balances bold design with everyday liveability. Set across four storeys and spanning 2200 square feet, the property was formerly arranged as two separate apartments before Taylor Howes Designs carefully reinstated it as a single cohesive residence rooted in creativity and personality.

Taylor Howes Designs approached the project with a clear focus on spatial planning, ensuring the home could function equally well as a private retreat and an engaging setting for entertaining. The lower ground floor now forms the social centre of the house, where a bespoke bar and entertaining kitchen are defined by dramatic Cristallo stone and Arabescato Rosso Orobico marble. Large doors open directly onto the garden, dissolving the boundary between interior and exterior spaces.

Throughout the home, Taylor Howes Designs introduced a layered and immersive aesthetic shaped by the clients’ love of colour, pattern and playful detail. Each room has its own identity, from a library inspired reception room to a soft green kitchen, yet all are unified through a cohesive palette and carefully curated materials. Influences drawn from boutique hospitality environments are evident, with an emphasis on craftsmanship and distinctive design moments.

Despite the previous loss of period features, Taylor Howes Designs reinstated classical detailing including cornicing, skirting and bespoke joinery, restoring a sense of authenticity. A custom stair runner inspired by original William Morris wallpaper introduces a contemporary twist, connecting each level with a flowing, organic motif.

The result is a home that feels both vibrant and welcoming, combining expressive design with practical function. Taylor Howes Designs has created a space that offers visual richness and comfort, delivering a townhouse that is as suited to daily life as it is to entertaining.
