Westgrove conceived this modern farmhouse as a deeply personal home rooted in food, nature, and everyday ritual. Set on a rural property surrounded by open fields and existing barns, the project balances warmth with precision, allowing beauty and utility to coexist in a way that feels effortless, timeless, and grounded in real life.

Approaching the project holistically, Westgrove prioritised the lived experience of the home as much as its visual identity. Every design decision was informed by how spaces would feel, function, and age over time. Honest, tactile materials and quiet craftsmanship define the interiors, creating warmth without sacrificing clarity or restraint. Although newly built, the house was intentionally designed to feel enduring rather than trend driven, with architectural details, material choices, and spatial flow working together to create a sense of ease and authenticity.

The single storey, open plan layout balances intimacy with functionality, supporting family life while maintaining moments of privacy and retreat. A double sided plaster fireplace anchors both the kitchen and living room, reinforcing connection between spaces. The kitchen was designed around the clients’ daily rituals, with generous preparation areas, a large island with seating, and dedicated cookbook storage for the chef clients. An open plan breakfast nook and dining area sit alongside a hard working pantry, featuring arched entries at both ends to ensure it remains visually elegant from both kitchen and living spaces.

Large sliding doors open the home to the horse paddock, enabling open air living during warmer months and strengthening the relationship between house and landscape. Bespoke lighting by Sara Wood By Hand, Huey Lighting, and Pinch London creates a warm, layered ambience, while bespoke millwork by Hamilton Holmes adds character and refinement. Venetian plaster specialists and Trumeau Stone completed the limestone mantle flanking both fireplace inserts, reinforcing Westgrove’s commitment to craftsmanship and material honesty.
