Interior Designer: Dream Design

Architect: ARC Architecture

Dream Design has completed the kitchen design for a substantial new build Georgian style manor house in the New Forest, delivering a space that successfully combines classical architecture with contemporary living.

Part of a wider 15,000 square foot residence in Hampshire, the project required Dream Design to develop the interior architecture and design in close collaboration with the project’s architect. From the outset, the objective was to create a home that would capture the timeless character associated with a traditional country manor while supporting the practical needs of modern family life.

The clients sought a residence that felt elegant, welcoming and personal, with the grandeur expected of a large country home but without excessive formality. In response, Dream Design developed a design language that brings together historic architectural references and contemporary detailing in a cohesive and carefully balanced way.

The kitchen forms the heart of the project and serves as one of its defining spaces. Dream Design designed the room as part of an open kitchen, dining and lounge environment where traditional features, including decorative ceiling cornices, sit comfortably alongside a contemporary kitchen, modern furnishings and integrated lighting. This approach allows the space to feel both impressive and highly liveable.

A key feature of the design is the L shaped island, which anchors the room while supporting natural circulation and framing views towards the terrace and surrounding landscape. The island creates a focal point for cooking, dining and social interaction, reinforcing the role of the kitchen as the centre of family life.

Above, Dream Design introduced a bespoke ceiling arrangement comprising three raised sections with concealed LED lighting. This architectural feature subtly defines the kitchen, dining and lounge areas while maintaining a strong sense of openness and flow throughout the space.

According to Dream Design, the success of the project lies in the careful integration of traditional and contemporary elements. Classical architectural details provide permanence and character, while modern materials, lighting and furnishings ensure the kitchen feels relevant and functional. The result is a space that delivers presence and elegance while remaining comfortable, practical and perfectly suited to contemporary living.
