Reider + Co was commissioned to design the interiors for this newly constructed 10,000 sq ft coastal residence that seamlessly balances refined elegance with functional family living. When a design-savvy West Coast family sought an East Coast beach retreat for their growing multigenerational household, the firm envisioned a home that celebrates both innovation and a strong sense of place along the Rhode Island shoreline.

Thoughtfully designed to enhance family life, the residence incorporates a series of experiential spaces, including a surf shop, pool table lounge, bar, reading den, state-of-the-art gym, and bunkhouse—each conceived to encourage connection, entertainment, and relaxation. Reider + Co collaborated closely with skilled local craftsmen to custom design architectural details, furnishings, and millwork, ensuring a truly bespoke result.

Among the property’s most distinctive features is an elevator discreetly concealed behind Plyboo wall panels, a sustainable bamboo material that provides a contemporary interpretation of traditional driftwood. Hand-blown glass lighting, crackled glass tiles, and cerused wood finishes further reflect the firm’s collaboration with Rhode Island artisans, imbuing the home with an authentic coastal character.

Despite its scale, the residence maintains a cohesive and inviting atmosphere through a harmonious color palette and layered use of luxurious materials. Intimate nooks for quiet family moments complement expansive areas designed for entertaining and hosting larger gatherings.

Now lived in for over a year, the clients—who initially envisioned the property as a summer retreat—have discovered that its thoughtful design and year-round comfort make it the perfect home in every season.
