Designed by Parris McKenna Design, this down to the studs renovation in Leslieville transforms an awkward and poorly laid out house into a refined and functional family home. After living in the property for more than twelve years, the clients asked the studio to completely reimagine the layout and usability of their three bedroom, two bathroom home, creating a place they could enjoy for many years to come.

The brief centred on improving everyday living for a young family. Key requirements included a better planned kitchen and dining area, larger bedrooms, a primary ensuite and the addition of a powder room. Through close collaboration and careful design thinking, Parris McKenna Design delivered a deeply personal interior that feels effortless, elegant and highly considered.

The kitchen features a cook nook and a built in dining area, forming the heart of the home and encouraging daily connection. A rich, earthy colour palette creates a soothing atmosphere from the moment one steps inside, while still offering depth, character and personality. A thoughtful mix of textures and materials adds warmth and a lived in quality that reflects both the clients and their family life.

The design respects and enhances the Leslieville way of living. It preserves the home’s relationship with the streetscape, honours the neighbourhood’s relaxed yet design conscious culture and supports a functional, beautiful interior rooted in human centred values. By reworking the existing structure rather than replacing it, the project maintains the historic rhythm that defines the area.

Custom millwork, bespoke tile patterns and installation, a custom stair railing and original fine art complete a home that feels grounded, expressive and perfectly attuned to its context.
