Isla James Interiors has transformed the Wentworth Retreat into a refined family residence where bespoke architectural joinery defines both the functionality and atmosphere of the home. Designed to introduce warmth, permanence and a distinctly British country house character, the project demonstrates how carefully considered craftsmanship can reshape everyday living while creating elegant and timeless interiors.

From the outset, Isla James Interiors viewed joinery as an integral part of the architecture rather than a series of individual cabinetry pieces. The entrance hall, once open and lacking definition, was reimagined with two glazed partition walls that create a welcoming vestibule while preserving natural light and visual connections to the wider home. Panelled cabinetry provides concealed storage for coats and shoes, while an upholstered bench, artwork and carefully positioned lighting transform a practical routine into an inviting arrival experience.

The study received an equally thoughtful redesign, with Isla James Interiors introducing full height oak joinery that incorporates shelving, integrated lighting, storage and a striking dark marble fireplace. Layered oak finishes and textured wallcoverings create an intimate atmosphere inspired by the character of a traditional gentleman’s club, providing a sophisticated setting for reading, working and relaxation.

Entertaining spaces were designed with the same balance of elegance and practicality. A bespoke walnut bar combines richly figured timber with marble, illuminated display shelving, concealed refrigeration and discreet storage, allowing it to feel seamlessly embedded within the architecture. A bespoke table and chairs positioned beneath a significant artwork create a dedicated place for conversation and quiet reflection.

Throughout the residence, Isla James Interiors established a cohesive design language through consistent proportions, natural materials and integrated lighting. Oak, walnut, marble, glass and tactile wallcoverings add warmth and depth without unnecessary ornamentation, while concealed practical features ensure every space remains calm and intuitive to use.

By treating joinery as an architectural element rather than simply furniture, Isla James Interiors has created a luxurious family home that feels deeply personal, beautifully resolved and perfectly tailored to the way its owners live.
