Paul Lavoie Interior Design were enlisted to create a warm, contemporary, luxury residence nestled into the western outskirts of Calgary’s inner city. Designed to be a couple’s home, yet functions for their large extended family. The architecture was developed on two lots in a unique community that is surrounded by aspen trees and amazing views of the Rocky Mountains. The interior of the home keeps a large connection with the exterior, through two-story spaces and floor to ceiling windows. The clients wanted a space where they could relax, socialize and entertain. From space planning, selecting finishes, and adding punctuation with furniture, the site and usage of the home were taken into mind. Modern versions of crystal chandeliers and sparkles added into the millwork mixed with tiled floors, Sapele wood and fur pillows add an unexpected but balanced mix of materials.

A key aspect of this design was creating a contemporary, fashionable and elegant home but also a comfortable, warm and inviting home for all ages.

Every selection in the home is modern and high end yet comfortable and durable. This allows the home to look pristine and fashionable, yet still liveable and functional for a whole family. Paul Lavoie Interior Design chose a large format porcelain tile for the whole main floor that extends right into the indoor pool area. The porcelain has the beauty of natural stone but is impervious to all elements.

Because of the home’s location, Paul Lavoie Interior Design wanted to take advantage of the amazing views. The large windows placed on the south side of the house look out into a vast forest. This is the first thing you see as soon as you enter the home. The architecture of the home has a long axis from east to west, giving advantageous views to each room and settles the house nicely into the environment. The exterior views become the homes art, and the furnishings and finishes are designed around this.

Many artisan skills were brought into this home. Because the home is so contemporary, you must look closely to discover all the beautifully executed details. Items such as blind pockets and hidden doors, showcase the homes sleek and simple lines. It’s those details that take time and skill to achieve a minimal look.
