Project Name: Knightsbridge Apartment

Location: London

Date Completed: December 2018

Interior Designer: Design Intervention

The clients of this apartment designed by Design Intervention are British Expatriates residing in Singapore. They purchased this 1300 sq. ft Knightsbridge apartment, within a Victorian-era Grade II listed building, as a UK base for their frequent trips back home.

The clients had tasked Design Intervention with recreating a sense of the grand old Knightsbridge mansions of the late 19th century, to recapture the essence of the building’s history but with a modern interpretation. As a second home, this apartment was to be used, primarily as a vacation home and a place for the family to meet-up in a relaxed setting. The brief was to capture the ambience of an English home with a strong sense of place, with lashes of wit and elements of the unexpected.

Design Intervention have created an unapologetically bold design, rich with historical references and a curated selection of antiques and collectables, enlivened by optimistic and youthful colour choices. Each element has been carefully selected to enhance and complement the others and create the layered feel of a generational family home. Inspired by the classic English country house but reinterpreted with a contemporary edge with a sense of fun and a youthful undercurrent.

The uplifting colour palette invigorates this North facing apartment so that this home resonates with a cosy cheerfulness even in the darkest of winter days.  The design is rooted in the history of the building but with the touches of English eccentricity and a youthful undercurrent without any hint of stuffiness.

Antique pieces classic motifs, inherited collection, rich patterns and vibrant colour choices, all work together to create a multi-layered and dynamic home with a strong sense of history and family.
