A high-end five-bedroom private residential refurbishment project located on Sloane Square, London. Dorin & Coppel faced a challenging project – to transform a former Canadian Ambassadors principal residence into a modern-day open plan family five-bedroom home. Full reconfiguration of all internal space was a requirement along with new a fully equipped kitchen, new master bathroom and dressing room, feature fireplaces, wine display, corridor cloakrooms, and joinery throughout. New internal finishes and specification was provided throughout all spaces.

The property is based on Sloane Square, within a conservation area and was subject to strict landlord controls and as such Dorin & Coppel were required to work within strict parameters from the outset. The team also worked under strict programme and budget limits set from the very start of the project. The initial works required a full MEP upgrade, structural works throughout, floor levelling, and reconfiguration of all internal spaces. The brief focused on open plan living, which allowed Dorin & Coppel greater freedom to configure the internal spaces and to allow natural light far deeper into the plan. As a result, the property has benefited greatly, especially within the master bathroom, hallways and large open plan living areas.

Part of Dorin & Coppel’s brief was to also focus on the idea of creating spaces for the full family to enjoy. The kitchen opens into the dining room through new openings in the spine wall, and from the dining space the formal living room is then connected through large timber doors centered to the new marble fireplaces. In addition, the central hallway was enlarged, and feature hallway lighting helped create a feeling of light open space connecting the bedrooms to living space.

The use of light timber finishes, open plan living spaces and the selection of the lighting has all worked hand in hand to create a wonderful apartment for a young family to enjoy. The internal reconfiguration and repositioning of internal space has helped to achieve a far better connection from the bedrooms to living areas. The bedrooms also now benefit from en-suite and master bathrooms, which previously did not exist, and this has significantly enhanced the bedroom spaces.
