An exclusive beachfront residence and guest home, designed to maximise the ocean views, privacy, and comfortable beachfront living. Murakami Design’s Albany Bahamas project promotes interaction with the sun and water, whilst maintaining a sense of intimacy as well as luxurious relaxation.

The clients wanted a luxurious beachfront property that worked for a large family, guest house and staff accommodation. The guest house and main residence each feature rooms for family entertainment and private spaces for reading or office work. Great care was taken to appoint each room with appropriately scaled furniture and finishes. Careful sourcing of unique accents such as lighting, and artwork are used to highlight each space. Artists had been commissioned to create unique paintings, photographs, and sculptures that were consistent with the overall design philosophy.

The focus is on indoor-outdoor living, with features such as a beachfront gazebo, outdoor kitchen, swimming pool, spa, and private areas for reading and relaxing. Together with Murakami Design’s collaboration with landscape architects Mills Design Group, building contractors Capstone Construction, and interior designers Ann Johnston Design Consultants, the project considers all aspects of the site including beach front, courtyard landscaping, scale and privacy. There are many aspects of the property that integrate it into it’s environment. Collectively, the team of professionals ensured that this was a luxurious, comfortable property which thrives in it’s beachside location.

Murakami Design maximised the views of the ocean whilst maintaining privacy from the neighbouring town homes and private residences. The design works well as the architecture and interior design create a tasteful and comfortable environment. Beginning with the right proportions of the building in relation to lot and adjacent buildings, Murakami Design also ensured the selection of appropriate planting and hardscape elements complement the architecture. The ocean views and natural light are found in abundance in each room, embracing the calming properties of the site. Consideration was also given to minimizing car presence and driveways. This limited driveway, though still having space for three cars, gave way for a garden courtyard that can be enjoyed by both the guest house and main residence.

The key aspect to this residence was the consideration for the environment. Both in terms of respecting the area and incorporating this in the design. The indoor/outdoor space with views overlooking the ocean became indispensable to the design philosophy. The main casual living space and adjacent dining room leads to an oversized covered porch. This outdoor porch includes a dining and lounge area, befitting for all occasions from family dinners, entertaining guests, or relaxing in privacy.
