Beach Bays Cottage is a sunset facing, contemporary lakeside retreat that rises from the Georgian Bay shores and meshes with the surrounding landscape effortlessly. This stunning property by Foreshew Design Associates maximises the views and embraces it’s location. Careful consideration was given to all aspects of the design, which has allowed the residence to harmonise with the landscape as well as the client’s requests for their interior spaces.

The innovation behind this design was carefully selected to weave with the landscape, in which Foreshew Design Associates have given the project a great rise and fall when scanning the property left to right. The structure is elongated to make great use of the entire bed rock. This feature also ensures that lake views were granted to all the rooms which the client had requested to have one.

When it came to selecting the exterior colours, Foreshew Design Associates made sure that they integrated well with the bed rock of Georgian Bay. The roof lines were designed to rise, graduating from low to high travelling from entrance to lake which maximises the view of the lake and the sky. This is accentuated further by the expansive glass openings and doors which welcome the views inwards.

The designers’ took the clients wishes and turned them into reality by designing a cottage that provides great separation of social and private spaces, along with awareness of it’s surroundings. Some of their favourite elements include the lake-facing sauna and gym, and the outdoor dining area with a large stacking glass door which opens up to an impressive bar.

This design works so well due to the flow between rooms and outdoor areas. It’s integration with the landscape is immaculate due to the colours and cadence of the exterior. Respectful of the building’s surroundings the design extenuates the landscape rather than the building’s forms. Foreshew Design Associates’ close attention to detail is noticeable through the relationship between the property and the Bay, and continues with their use of materials. The decorative timber frame elements that run from exterior to interior add subtle excellence, and all stone used in the property was hand hewn by Valhalla Stoneworks and harvested on site.
