Foreshew Design Associate’s Beach Bay Cottage is a contemporary lakeside retreat that has been designed with respect and admiration for its surroundings. The innovation behind this sunset facing property on the Georgian Bay was carefully designed to mesh with the rise and fall of it’s landscape.

The elongated structure of the residence has been devised to make great use of the entire bedrock. In doing so, Foreshew Design Associates were also able to offer lave views to all rooms that the client had requested to have one. The roof lines were designed to rise across the property, from low at the entrance to high at the lakeside in order to maximise the stunning views of the lake and sky vistas. When it came to selecting the exterior colours for the façade, the designers made sure that the integrated with well with the bedrock of the Georgian Bay.

Expansive glass openings and doors have been used to draw in the lake view. Glass became a key material to this design in the interest of ensuring that the interior design did not clash with the calming surroundings and views towards this remained unobstructed. This is evident is areas such as the see-through wine display, “floating” staircase with decorative lighting, and outdoor dining with large stacking glass door which opens to an impressive bar

This design has great flow whilst considering both the location and the clients request for separate and shared areas. It has been integrated with the landscape well, where the exterior colours mesh with the building’s surroundings to extenuate the landscape rather than the building’s forms. The decorative timber frame elements that run from exterior to interior add subtle excellence, and all stone used in the property was hand hewn by Valhalla Stoneworks and harvested on site.
