Project Name: Haven

Location: Lagos, Nigeria

Interior Designer: Carlisle Design Studio

Architect: SOATA

Carlisle Design Studio were enlisted to complete the interiors for a new build contemporary villa for a family in the heart of Ikoyi, Lagos, Nigeria. The project included a grand formal reception and dining spaces, informal living areas and a total of 8-bedroom suites. Carlisle Design Studio were tasked with creating a contemporary interior to complement the architecture. Working with a very prominent South African Architecture firm, the design studio developed a full interior design package within the extremely short project programme of a single year; very ambitious for a project its scale.

The client wanted a family home that was simultaneously dramatic, bold, fun, patterned and eclectic, yet homely and welcoming to suit their large growing family of 3 generations. The spaces needed to be multi-functional and adaptable to suit both their love of entertaining very important guests that would be allowed to freely roam the generous volumes spaces yet be able to immediately return to a comfortable space for their young children to enjoy and feel at a home moment’s notice. The careful but playful layers of colour, pattern and geometry are bold to perfectly reflect the client’s personality but are subtle so as to align with the clean lines of the architecture.

For Carlisle Design Studio, a key aspect of this project was the opportunity to design the vast majority of the FF&E as custom unique pieces specific to the clients brief from furniture, feature sculptural lighting through to tableware and accessories. Joinery marquetry was manufactured and imported from Germany, embroidery to curtains from locally found seamstress bases in Lagos. Carlisle Design Studio believe that the eclectic and bold interior design works harmoniously with the clean lines of the architecture and exceeds the expectations of the client.
