Studio Cotan has embarked on a captivating interior design project nestled within the picturesque Hakuba Village, a renowned international mountain resort in Japan. Known for its pristine piste skiing and breathtaking vistas, Hakuba has long been a favorite destination for mountain enthusiasts, attracting visitors from around the globe.

Commissioned to undertake the interior design of a vacation house nestled in the mountainside, Studio Cotan approached the project with a focus on maximizing the architectural features while harmonizing with the local climate and environment. The client, engaged in international business, sought to transform the ski chalet into a welcoming retreat for family holidays and guests from overseas.

To achieve this, Studio Cotan capitalized on the chalet’s distinctive architectural elements, including deep eaves, cedar ceilings, and dynamic expressions of structural elements such as pine columns, beams, and rafters. Rustic oak hardwood flooring was carefully selected to complement the bold ceilings, while contemporary wooden furniture and warm fabrics added a touch of modernity while maintaining the chalet’s cozy charm.

The interior design seamlessly blends indoor and outdoor spaces, with expansive glass openings and balconies encircling the living space. This creates a sense of floating amidst the forest, enveloped by the surrounding trees and offering a soothing sensation of being cradled by nature.

Through the careful selection of materials and an effective lighting plan, Studio Cotan has accentuated the charm of the interior space to its fullest extent. The result is an inviting retreat that conjures the feeling of warmth and comfort while immersing guests in the beauty of the natural surroundings. Studio Cotan’s meticulous attention to detail and thoughtful design approach have transformed the ski chalet into a sanctuary where relaxation and tranquility reign supreme.
