Craig & Company has been shortlisted for the Luxury Residence Americas Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2025 for a 6,000-square-foot penthouse overlooking Michigan Avenue. The residence, initially purchased as raw space, was entrusted to the firm by owners who had previously collaborated with Craig & Company on another project. The firm was selected for the architectural build-out and interior design, continuing the aesthetic approach from their earlier work together.

The penthouse features distinct spaces for daytime and nighttime use. The nighttime areas are defined by black terrazzo floors and a moody color palette of gold, gray, and cream accents, while the daytime spaces feature a lighter palette of creams and gold, contrasted with charcoal grays and black. The design is based on a grid, influencing architectural elements throughout the home, from the stone joints and terrazzo floors to the kitchen cabinetry and powder room detailing.

Each space maintains its individuality while adhering to a cohesive design philosophy, allowing for seamless adaptation to various gatherings. The layout maximizes the penthouse’s location, offering views of the Chicago skyline and Lake Michigan. The living room, the apartment’s longest space, is situated along the south terrace, with floor-to-ceiling doors that enhance natural light and provide easy flow between the indoor and outdoor areas.

Lighting by Nathan Orsman is fully customizable, creating warm, inviting spaces at night without obstructing the city’s views. The design integrates urban sophistication, creating a harmonious connection between the interior and its vibrant surroundings.
