Tucked within a quiet riverfront neighborhood on a serene 2.5-acre site, the Finnbar Art Home is a refined single-level residence and detached studio designed by KA DesignWorks. Commissioned by contemporary art gallery owners with a deep appreciation for design, composition, and craftsmanship, the project was conceived as both a private sanctuary and a living gallery—where daily life unfolds in harmony with curated works of art.

Encompassing just over 5,000 square feet, the four-bedroom residence is composed of a series of linear and square stone volumes that establish spatial rhythm and ground the architecture within the natural landscape. The layout facilitates seamless transitions between interior and exterior, offering intimate courtyards, framed views, and garden moments that expand the dwelling’s sense of place.

A key driver in the design process was the clients’ extensive art collection. Major installations were sited early and intentionally, guiding circulation paths, room alignments, and sightlines throughout the home. The result is an environment of quiet precision, where art and architecture exist in continuous dialogue.

The owners played an active role in the home’s realization, personally hand-charring the exterior wood siding in the Japanese tradition of shou sugi ban. Their commitment to detail extended throughout the residence—from bespoke millwork to custom cabinetry—ensuring the architecture reflects their values of artistry and permanence.

Complementing the main house is a detached studio, a modest barn-inspired form that serves as a luthier workshop and music space. Together with the curated landscape that unifies both buildings, the Finnbar Art Home stands as a profound expression of modernism grounded in craft, art, and place
