Sera House seamlessly blends neoclassical elegance with contemporary sophistication, showcasing artisanal details and a timeless, balanced design. Designed by Cristina Carulla Studio SL, this 500 m² townhouse is situated in an exclusive residential neighborhood in Barcelona’s upper area. The property is located in a historic district that was once an independent rural town before integrating with the city in 1921. Known for its picturesque streets, grand mansions, and village-like charm, the area was a favored retreat for Barcelona’s bourgeoisie in the 19th century. The residence honors its neoclassical heritage while incorporating contemporary elements to enhance both functionality and comfort.

The project carefully balances tradition with modernity, preserving the home’s architectural integrity while optimizing its interior layout. The four-story residence features communal spaces, including a living room, study, and kitchen, on the ground floor, while private bedrooms occupy the upper levels. A central staircase, illuminated by a skylight, allows natural light to flow harmoniously throughout the home.

Materiality and craftsmanship are central to the design. The living room is anchored by a green onyx coffee table and a Negro Marquina marble fireplace, while the sienna-toned study features iconic design pieces such as the Shogun table lamp by Mario Botta and Cesca chairs by Marcel Breuer. The kitchen pairs oak cabinetry with light gray stone surfaces featuring striking veining, achieving a balance of refinement and practicality.

Intricate ceiling moldings in the master bedroom, handcrafted stone mosaic flooring in the entrance, and a Mediterranean-inspired garden with deep green zellige and terracotta tiles enhance the residence’s timeless character. Sera House reinterprets classical elements through a contemporary lens, blending history with modernity to create a refined yet inviting living space.
