Laura Hammett has once again demonstrated her mastery of refined design with a stunning transformation of a contemporary penthouse in The Bahamas. Tasked with creating an elegant, comfortable family home, Laura Hammett seamlessly blended the sophistication of a London aesthetic with subtle nods to the Bahaman setting. The result is a harmonious fusion of two unique styles, giving the property its own distinct character.

Having previously worked with the clients on their London home, Laura Hammett approached the project with an understanding of their taste for tailored, luxurious design. This familiarity informed a design ethos that incorporated the clients’ desire for a “London feel” while honouring the local culture and natural environment. To avoid overt Bahaman references, the design utilised a conceptual approach, introducing subtle contextual nods that created depth and connection to the penthouse’s surroundings.

The design features a carefully curated material palette, including Taj Mahal quartz, rattan, warm timbers, alabaster stone, and textural plaster work, echoing the natural beauty of The Bahamas. These elements enhance the flow between spaces, creating a cohesive aesthetic that is both striking and understated.

One of the standout elements is the bespoke De Gournay art panels in the little girl’s bedroom, customised with her favourite animals and tailored to the room’s colour scheme. The integration of the family’s existing art collection, alongside newly commissioned pieces, underscores the personal nature of the design.

Laura Hammett’s ability to craft layered, textural interiors is evident in every detail, from the harmonious tones to the thoughtful balance of focal points and understated elegance. This penthouse is a perfect embodiment of luxurious, considered design, offering a sophisticated family retreat that feels equally connected to London and The Bahamas.
